We invite you to join us in helping to bring food to those in need. We will have two different food collections in the coming months.

  • For Thanksgiving Sunday (November 22nd) we will open the church for people to drop off donations (See below for more information.)
  • We invite you to join us in our Reverse Advent Calendar food collection. Donations will be collected on Epiphany Sunday (January 3, 2021) (See below for how to join in.)

Food Donation Collection on November 22nd.

Thanksgiving Sunday is one of the high points in our worship life at The Dover Church. We gather in and sing our traditional Thanksgiving songs, but the center is our agape table. Everyone comes forward to share in the grapes and fruit breads as we celebrate the bounty of God’s Grace towards us.

This year, Sunday, November 22, we cannot celebrate in this way due to the pandemic. Instead, we will bring our gifts to the table this year to share with others.

Our church will be open from 9 to 9:40 AM, during which time you can bring non-perishable food items in bags or boxes to place on our agape table. This food will be brought to A Place to Turn, our local food pantry.

Current needs include: Coffee, tea, sugar, oil, canned beef stew and cereal.

Many of our neighbors are in dire straits right now and this will be a reimagining of how we celebrate Thanksgiving at our church.

God bless all of you as we carry on in our faith walk as God’s people in this place.

~ Max

(Food donations can also be brought to the church office starting now. We have food donation bins outside of our Admin wing door in the parking lot.)

Reverse Advent Calendars

Traditional Advent Calendars have little "doors" that you open each day during Advent. It is exciting to see what you will receive - an inspirational reading, candy and even sometimes a small toy. As a way to help others during this pandemic, we invite you to participate in our Reverse Advent Calendar food collection.

Starting on Thanksgiving/Agape Sunday, November 22nd, we will hand out boxes and a list of food items needed. You can stop by the church office to pick up a box or we can email the list of needed food items to you. For each day during Advent place one food item into the box. (Advent is from Sunday, November 29 to Christmas Eve.) We will collect the boxes on Epiphany Sunday, January 3rd. (Epiphany is when the three kings arrived with their gifts!)

Please email Beth Benjamin, and let us know if you need help getting your filled box to the church.
