Welcome
Welcome to The Dover Church! If you are looking for a church home, this is a sincere invitation for you to join with the men, women and children of this congregation. The Dover Church is a Covenant Community open to all people who wish to share in the worship of God and seek a path toward a Christian life.
Since 1762, The Dover Church has extended an invitation to all people to become active in the life of the congregation. It is an invitation that we now extend to you. We hope you will join us in worship, held each Sunday morning. We hope your children will enjoy our educational programs, offered each Sunday during the school year. We trust that you will find nurture for your soul here, as you join a pilgrimage of faith.
Dover Church Covenant
We, the members of the Dover Church, humbly repenting of our sins and trusting in God’s grace to save, guide and strengthen us, hereby engage to love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
We take the Lord Jesus as our Master, His spirit as our spirit, His way of life as ours. We promise to work, to pray and if needs be to suffer for the establishment of God’s kingdom of righteousness, freedom and love among all people.
We agree to do our part in maintaining the services of this Church, at home and abroad, to promote its honor and peace, to submit to its discipline and to be kindly affectioned one to another.
From the Pastors
We are delighted that you are interested in The Dover Church. Should you make this your church home, you will find a wonderful faith community: young and old, singles and families, of a great variety of beliefs and backgrounds.
What is involved in membership?
The Dover Church is a covenantal church. That means that each member here has agreed to live, as best she or he can, according to the covenant of The Dover Church. We also respect the creeds of the Christian tradition — yet it is our covenant that binds us together and guides us. We recite it when new members join us and when youngsters are confirmed..
Membership in the church also carries the expectation that you will make a significant offering to the life of the church. Practically, this usually means a pledge of financial support. Most of our members will serve, at some time, on one of the committees and boards that lead the church. It is important to note that each member will have a different view of what is a significant offering. Such a diversity of needs and resources is a blessing. Above all, we consider membership in the church to be a heartfelt and deep commitment, rather than a casual one. The church grows in faith as we each give something of ourselves to it.
How do I become a member?
For a baptized person who has ever been a member of another Christian church all that is required is that you speak to either of us and we will send for your letter of transfer. If you’re a student and in the 8th grade or older, then you join a Confirmation Class such as the one which will take place this winter and spring. If you are an adult but have never been a member of this, or any other church, or if you have not been baptized, then we need to talk so that special arrangements may be made.
There is a category that is called Associate Membership, which allows you to maintain an affiliation with another congregation while still uniting with The Dover Church.
However you come to this church, please know that you are choosing a community of faith that seeks to practice forgiveness and celebrate the good things that God is doing in our lives. It will be our joy, to welcome you here!
